Great Ormond Street Hospital (GOSH) in London is the UK’s leading children’s hospital and receives more than 200,000 patient visits every year from children all over the UK and the world. Like Arsenal, they are amongst the best in the world, but much of the hospital was built in the 1930’s and does not provide the facilities our doctors and nurses need to continue to look after such seriously ill children. Therefore Arsenal hopes to raise £500,000 helping Great Ormond Street Hospital to build a new Lung Function Unit for children who have a range of different conditions including asthma, wheezing, cystic fibrosis and cancer. (Arsenal FC itself donates all revenue made from the Arsenal-Chelsea game.)
For most children treated there, Great Ormond Street Hospital is their last hope, as doctors at their local hospitals can’t help them. Whilst the Hospital’s current Lung Function Unit is an old office building, cramped with modern medical equipment, the new unit has been designed to provide a well planned, modern and spacious environment in which to treat children and their families. It will help newborn babies right through to teenagers with areas designed especially for patients to include play facilities. For more information about GOSH visit www.beagoonerbeagiver.org/
